A Case for Lace

No longer reserved solely for a walk down the aisle, lace is making a huge appearance this season in all shapes and forms.

This summer we are seeing an array of wearable lace items for the everyday woman. From blazers to skirts, and everything in between, we can’t help but feel a sense of regained sophistication. Some of our favourite items this season have subtle lace detailing that brings some sexy peek-a-boo elements to an ensemble. We are also completely in love with the fully lace pieces not only because they are beautiful, but because they are timeless and won't ever go out of fashion. Whether it’s a romantic accent to an outfit or an overall look, rest assured that your look will be effortlessly elegant.

It is the epitome of femininity. There is nothing like a little lace to make us feel like a lady!

Easy Chic

In 1926, Wharton School of Business economist George Taylor coined the theory known as the “Hemline Index”. The Hemline Index describes the relationship between the economy and hemlines, in which the length of women’s skirts are an indicator of stock market potential. In other words: the shorter the skirt the better the economy. Well, we are sorry to inform you Mr. Taylor, but we will have to refute your claim because we are seeing skirts of ALL lengths for spring 2015. While it is true that in past years mini or maxi skirts have been the ‘it’ skirt for that particular season, we are seeing a newfound appreciation of all hemlines. Women rejoice!

There is just something about a great skirt that makes us feel feminine and gives us that boost of confidence to help us look and feel our best. Not only are there no rules to follow when it comes to skirt length this spring, we are seeing a wide range in style, shape, and colour. Some of our go-to patterns, such as florals and stripes are classics and are always popular for spring; however, it would be an understatement to say that sheer is hot right now. What we love about a sheer skirt is that they are so sexy and yet still sophisticated. Whatever your favourite style is, trust that it will be on trend.

We have put together some of our favourite pieces from Tibi, Clu, TOME, and more here, so happy shopping! The world is your oyster.

Summer Breeze

As summer is quickly approaching, we are getting our closets ready for the warm weather ahead of us. Summer is the time for us to live in the moment and be carefree, an attitude that we try to replicate when choosing our wardrobes. We don’t want to fuss about our outfits, we want easy pieces that are soft and light, while still being chic and giving us cool-girl street credit.

It is now time to tuck away our cashmere *tear*, tweed, and merino wool, and pull out pieces that are open wovens or lightweight in nature. Certain fabrics, such as linen, cotton, and ramie, are great choices for those hot summer nights because they are breathable, keep us looking fresh, and can still be layered without feeling too heavy. The best part is that they are also transitional pieces that can be worn into fall and winter, layered under our sweaters and coats.

While we will only stop wearing black when they make a darker colour, we like most of our summer attire in whites, neutrals, and pastel hues. Shop some of our favourite summer easy breezy looks here!

2-in-1's from Derek Lam 10 Crosby

When we thought our obsession with Derek Lam 10 Crosby could not reach new limits, Vice President of Design, Liz Giardina, went above and beyond anything we could have dreamed of. Giardina combined pleats, sweatshirts, and structural elements and created a collection of 2-in-1 tonal separates in dresses and tops that has completely blown our minds. What could possibly be better than fashion meeting practicality?
Derek Lam 10 Crosby resolves a common issue that many working professionals have: taking an outfit from day to night. One of our favourite pieces, the 2-in-1 sweatshirt dress, is a perfect item that can be worn both at the office and at a party later on. Layer the sweatshirt over top of the dress for work appropriate attire and peel it off and keep it in your purse for drinks with your girlfriends in the evening.

Quirky Prints

There is something that we love about a great print. It brings that boldness to your outfit while still being easy and effortless. Throw on a great printed skirt and pair it with a plain tee or an eccentric top with jeans. There is no need to over accessorize as we like to keep it simple and let the prints do the talking!
All over the Spring catwalks we saw wonderful novelty prints that are graphic and whimsical, showing a bit of the designer's humour and personality. Shop some of our favourite pieces here!
While it has been said, "Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking," even floral prints this season have been updated with with a quirky flare.
It's hard not to smile when you're wearing something so fun! Shop the look here.

RB Fave: Tibi's Off The Shoulder Top

Every season there are those few special pieces that we suddenly see everywhere on bloggers, fashion editors, influencers, you name it. There were the Isabel Marant Bekket Sneakers a couple of years ago, the Zara Skort, and recently, the Chanel Art School Backpack. Now, we are seeing Tibi's Satin Poplin Off the Shoulder Top on so many fabulous women (think Hanneli Mustaparta, Sara Donaldson, Hannah Bronfman, and Natalie Joos) and we can't get enough of it!
Not only is Tibi's tunic on trend with the Bohemian theme we saw all over the Spring catwalks, but it is fresh, feminine, and extremely versatile. Styling should be minimal with this piece as we like to keep the focus on our collarbones.
Our favourite is the Aqua and you can get it here now. Happy shopping!
